The County of Simcoe’s curbside clothing and textiles collection program is back.
Simcoe County residents can put out their clean, dry, and odour-free items, including those that cannot be reused.
Residents should have received pink plastic bags for clothing and textiles in the mail during April and May.
The collection will occur either in week one, between June 5 and 9, or in week two, between June 12 and 16, depending on your location and zone. Households will have one pick-up only.
Pick-up will generally take place on the resident’s regular collection day during the household’s designated clothing collection week.
Pink clothing bags or clear plastic bags containing clothes and textiles should be placed a minimum of two feet from your vehicles, at the curb, by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day.
Clothing and textiles will be collected by a different truck than waste collection, so be sure to put your items out early so you don’t miss having your items picked up.
To ensure collection, bags must be sealed and weigh less than 20 kg. Items must be clean, dry, and odour free.
Acceptable materials include clean clothing, towels and pillows, coats and outerwear, hats, belts, scarves, purses, backpacks, sleeping bags and luggage, shoes, socks, and mittens in pairs. Please wrap mittens with elastic to hold them together.
Collected clothing and textiles are sent to a facility for sorting and grading. Most materials are reused in Canada, and some are reused or recycled as rags or acoustic fill or sent overseas.
Ninety-eight percent of the material collected can be reused or recycled.
To determine your collection date, download the Simcoe County Collects app, available free of charge from the App Store and Google Play.
The information is also available online at www.simcoe.ca/waste.
