The Town of New Tecumseth is investing in the future through innovative partnerships, hands-on learning opportunities, and forward-thinking initiatives that connect residents with in-demand careers.
The proposed Skilled Trades & Technology Training Centre is an initiative that would expand access to local training, help address skilled labour shortages, and strengthen workforce access for employers across the region.
Town staff recently led meetings with post-secondary institutions that submitted responses as part of the Expression of Information process to explore partnership opportunities, programming models, and future training needs. These discussions will support an upcoming feasibility study with the County of Simcoe and help shape the project’s next phase.
“New Tecumseth is taking action to prepare for the future,” said Mayor Richard Norcross.
“The proposed Skilled Trades & Technology Training Centre represents a significant opportunity to expand local training opportunities, support employers, and strengthen our workforce for years to come. Combined with initiatives such as our Tools in the Trades Bootcamp and upcoming Hackathon, we are creating pathways to success for residents while helping ensure our community remains competitive, innovative, and ready for continued growth.”
The town is continuing to build awareness and interest in skilled trades careers through hands-on programming.
On Sept. 17, the town hosted its second Tools in the Trades Bootcamp of the year in partnership with Support Ontario Youth and Honda of Canada Manufacturing. The event provided participants with practical experience in the electrical and millwright trades, direct connections with employers, and valuable insight into local career opportunities.
