South Simcoe Police lay multiple charges in connection to robbery at knifepoint

South Simcoe Police received a report of a robbery that occurred at the Sandy Cove Variety on Lockhart Road in Innisfil on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at approximately 6:45 p.m.

A male suspect entered the store brandishing a large knife. 

The suspect was wearing a mask, a dark coloured jacket with the hood up, and gloves when he approached the counter, pointed a knife at the store owner, and demanded money. 

The store owner complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency. The suspect then fled the store on foot and was last seen running eastbound on Lockhart Road. The store owner was not harmed, and no injuries were reported.

Upon arrival, officers set up a perimeter to contain the area, and South Simcoe Police Dog Nash was deployed. 

Police Dog Nash tracked the suspect to a residence on Flora Drive in Innisfil. Through further investigation by members of the South Simcoe Police Criminal Investigations Unit, a knife believed to be used by the suspect during the robbery was located outside the residence.

As a result of the investigation, a 46-year-old male from Barrie, Ont., was arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:

• Robbery with a Weapon
• Disguise with Intent
• Assault with a Weapon
• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
• Possession Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000

The accused has been held for a bail hearing.

The charges laid against the accused individual have not been tested in court.
