The South Simcoe Theatre is opening the spring season with a revival of the 2013 Tony Award-winning musical “PIPPIN.”

Based on the book by Roger O. Hirson, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, PIPPIN follows one man’s journey to be extraordinary.

This production is directed by Scott Hurst, with music director Colin Frotten and stage manager Lesley Coo.

Heir to the Frankish throne, the young Prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power.

In the end, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavours but rather in the ordinary moments that happen every day.

PIPPIN continues to be a timely and telling story even more pertinent in these challenging political times.

PIPPIN will open on Friday, May 2, on the South Simcoe Theatre’s Cookstown stage and runs through May 18. Shows on Friday and Saturday evenings begin at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.

This performance includes strong language and images in an attempt to engage the audience in a new and perhaps magical way. Please note that stage fog is used during the production.

This performance is recommended for ages 14 and up.
