SSAC Arts on Main features “Diversity: Windows of the World”

October 8, 2021   ·   0 Comments

From September 14 to October 5, the South Simcoe Arts Council (SSAC) held its annual Arts on Main event in the communities of Tottenham, Beeton and Alliston.

Member artists displayed their work in business windows of the downtown cores in varied media from photography, to oil on canvas, and even steel sculpture.

The theme for 2021 was “Diversity: Windows of the World”, which celebrated the richness of diversity through the arts, with the windows themselves providing a metaphor for the looking glass of life.

“It is when we start to see through one another’s perspective that we are changed and our lives are enriched,” Ken Burns, SSAC president, told The Times. “Entries in this year’s Arts on Main reflect and celebrate the diversity of the world, capturing the beauty in our differences, whether cultural, geographical, personal, or artistic.”

Now in its 17th year, Arts on Main was also held during the pandemic, as the outdoor event met with Health Unit protocols for safe distancing during COVID–19, but Burns said he was pleased to be able to get back to living life as it should be, and “Arts on Main is part of that”.

The event takes months to curate – from choosing a theme, to lining up venues and finalizing the advertising. Many working hands take part.

“The businesses have been amazing. We are so appreciative that they’re sharing their spaces with us,” said Suu Taylor SSAC Executive Director, on the success of this years’ event. “Art on Main is a great opportunity. We have incredible artists in our community and this is a fabulous way to get to meet them.”
