Stevenson Memorial Hospital has announced that Chief of Staff, Dr. Jaco Scheeres, is retiring, effective July 31, 2023.
Dr. Scheeres assumed the role of Chief of Staff in 2021 and balanced those duties with his role as Chief of Obstetrics. He has been a valuable and cherished member of the hospital and the local community.
Over his nine years in Obstetrics at SMH, he has provided steadfast leadership. He is also retiring from his role in Obstetrics.
“We thank Dr. Scheeres for his incredible contributions to patient are at SMH, as well as his leadership as Chief of Staff,” said Norm Depta, Chair, Board of Directors, SMH. “He has been instrumental in the growth of the Obstetrics program, as well as his supporting the hospital during a challenging time in health care, ensuing that physician wellness and education opportunities remained at the forefront.”
In the interim, SMH has announced that Dr. Barry Nathanson, Medical Director, Critical Care Services at Southlake Regional Health Centre, has been appointed as interim Chief of Staff at SMH, effective August 1, 2023.
The SMH Board of Directors will be engaging in a search for a permanent Chief of Staff.
