Techie Nesters will host a second session for seniors in Alliston

After a successful inaugural information session in Tottenham on July 11, Techie Nesters will host a second session in Alliston in August to let local seniors know about their program designed to support older adults who want to age in place.

The first meeting went very well, and many local residents who could not attend contacted organizers with questions about the program.

Jenn Gerynowicz, founder and chief compassion officer of Techie Nesters,, decided to host a second session so more local residents could attend and learn how the program could help them.

A May 2025 Ipsos survey found that 93 per cent of Canadians over 65 would prefer in-home care over moving to a long-term care facility.

As the population ages, many seniors would like to age in place in the comfort of their own homes, where they have lived, in many cases, for decades.

Techie Nesters is a member-supported, aging well model now active in nine Ontario markets.

“We have an aging population and we realized that the traditional care models aren’t equipped to meet the emotional, social, and logistical needs of older adults who want to stay in their homes,” Gerynowicz explained. “We wanted to fill that gap, and not with expensive programs, but with something that is human centred, available, and local. It’s all about connection and empowerment and helping people stay more independent.”

While most older adults want to remain at home, many families are facing the reality that private care and retirement living are becoming harder to afford. As most Canadians over the age of 65 would prefer in-home care, that is where Techie Nesters is trying to fill the missing middle gap.

The model combines friendly technology help, scam awareness, curated social connection, monthly gatherings, Wingmates, and practical neighbour-to-neighbour support through something called Bird Calls.

A Bird Call is a member request for help placed by telephone or email through the Techie Nesters Compassion Concierge.

The second session of Techie Nesters will take place on Friday, Aug. 14, at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre in Allison from 11 a.m. to 12:30 pm.
