The Provincial Junior Hockey League is waiting for one conference final series to finish to see which four Junior C teams will move on to the semi-final round of the Schmalz Cup playoffs.
The North Carruthers Division champions, the Orillia Terriers, are done for the season after losing their North Conference series to the Hanover Barons in five games.
Orillia won Game One of the series 5-3, but that’s all they could do.
Hanover returned to win the next four games, shutting out the Terriers in two of those games.
The Barons were division champions last year and made it to the semi-final round of the Schmalz Cup playoffs.
In the East Conference, the Napanee Raiders won the title with a four-game sweep over the Clarington Eagles. That series wrapped up on April 10 with a 5-2 Raiders win in Game Four.
It was a tough battle with four low-scoring games.
The West Conference champions are the Essex 73s. They won the title with a four-game sweep over the Petrolia Flyers.
This was an unbalanced series with Essex scoring 11 goals in Game Three.
The League is now waiting for the outcome of the South Conference final between the New Hamburg Firebirds and the Grimsby Peach Kings.
The series is tied 3-3.
This is proving to be a very competitive series with the teams trading wins over the six games.
The series will come down to game seven to decide the winner.
Game seven was scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, with results not available at press times.
The four remaining teams will enter a best-of-seven series to see which two teams will move on to the 2025 Schmalz Cup Provincial Championship.
