If you like a sweet snack, participate in Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie Campaign and enjoy a baked good while supporting a worthy cause.

The annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign got underway on May 1, with locations across the country offering cookies, with the proceeds going towards local charities and causes.

Locally, all three Tim Horton’s locations in Alliston will be supporting the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation this year.

“Today is a pre-launch for Smile Cookie week which starts on Monday,” explained Tim Hortons Young Street location owner John Lewandowski, at a gathering on April 26 at the store. “It will run all week to May 7. All the proceeds will be going to the hospital. Every $1.50 that’s spent on a cookie will go to the hospital. We also have some extras that we are selling.”

The Smile Cookie Campaign is held at all Tim Hortons locations in Canada, with each store having the opportunity to donate the funds to a cause local to their area. The funds all stay in the community.

“All the money goes back into the local community to different charities,” John said. “This year we’re doing the hospital. Next year it might change, different years it goes to different charities but this year it is going to the hospital.”

The Hospital Foundation will use the funds to help with various equipment and the hospital’s redevelopment project.

“The proceeds will be going to the ‘Because you, we can campaign’ and that is going to fund the greatest needs of the hospital,” explained Mary Thomas, CEO of the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation. “That will be for new equipment or replacing old technology, or going toward the redevelopment. We want to use it for the greatest needs.”

The Smile Cookie Campaign will be running until May 7.
