The TNT Express are back on the gridiron for the 2019 football season.

The Express have three rep teams playing this year. Bantam, peewee, and junior varsity divisions have teams entered in this year’s line-up.

They also have tyke and atom divisions that will be playing house league.

The Club held it’s first games at Mel Mitchell Athletic Field in Beeton on Sunday, May 19, with pewees and JV on the field.

It was supposed to be three-game day but the bantam game had to be rescheduled after a league mix up.

Peewee

The Express peewee team played the first game of the day when they hosted the Oakville Titans with a 12:00 p.m. start.

It was a rough first half for the Express when the Titans managed to run up the score to 36-0.

TNT regrouped during the break and got back to basics for the second half and started putting out a good effort as a team.

On offence, Taylor Wilson, AJ Bonsi, Quinton Junner, and Chase Harburn, put in a good effort to gain the Express some yards on the field.

The defensive squad stepped up to hold the Titans on the field.

A good effort by Tristen Almeida, Colton Haliday, Anthony Attard, Eric Zielke, and Anna Marshall put some stops on the Titan effort.

The Express couldn’t get pass the Oakville defence and had to settle for 55-0 loss for the day.

The peewees will return to Mel Mitchell field this Sunday, May 26, when they will host Brampton with an 11:00 a.m. kickoff.

Junior Varsity

The Express Junior Varsity team played the second game of the day when they welcomed the Clarington Knights with a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.

The Knights scored early in the game and followed with a successful convert to lead 7-0 in the early going.

The Express recovered a fumble late in the quarter for possession but had to start deep in their own end.

TNT found themselves deep in their own end late in the half and were forced to punt to get out of a big hole.

Clarington scored again before the half to lead 14-0.

The second half saw the Express push hard down the field but couldn’t gain the final few yards to score.

They had to settle for 35-0 loss in their first outing of the season.

The Express junior varsity team will be back in action on their home field at Mel Mitchell on Sunday, June 16, when they will host Woodstock.

The kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
