The TNT Tornados U10 AA team had a stellar performance at the OMHA tournament held in Kingston on Mar. 31 to Apr. 2.
The team made it to the final game but took a 5-1 loss and had to settle for a second-place finish. That is still an excellent tribute to an outstanding season for this team.
The team earned the right to go to the OMHA championship after winning the YSHHL league playoff tournament.
In the round-robin play, they finished with a 1-1-1 record. They lost 3-1 to a strong Whitby team in their first game. They won 5-1 over Burlington and tied 2-2 with Halton Hills.
With that record, they were able to move to the semi-final round after finishing in second place in the ‘A’ pool.
In the semi-final, they were up against the Orangeville Flyers. Orangeville led the scoring 2-0 in the second period. The Tornados scored with a shot from the point late in the second period to make it a 2-1 game.
The Tornados tied the game in the third. With neither team able to score, the game went into overtime to decide a winner.
TNT scored in overtime for the win and a chance to advance to the final game.
The winning goal was shot from the point, sailed over the net, hit the boards, bounced off the netting and crossbar on the goal, then bounced off a TNT player’s head and into the net.
It wasn’t a conventional goal, but it still counted.
In the final game, the Tornados were up against Whitby.
They played a good game but had to settle for a loss.
The coaches and parents were very proud of what the team has accomplished this season.
