Construction on the Tottenham fire station expansion is well underway, with steel beams in place that provide the foundation of the new structure.

The project has been in the planning stages for several years and is now coming to fruition.

The current fire station was built in 1972 and provided adequate fire and emergency response over the years, but it is now in need of upgrades and increased storage for the fire department’s equipment.

A third bay will be added to the new station to house fire trucks and equipment. The building itself will receive some much-needed interior renovations. The latest addition will be 2,200 square feet.

The construction project will not interfere with fire service and emergency response, and firefighters will continue to respond to calls from the Mill Street station while the construction project is completed.

The need for the fire station expansion and renovation was realized several years ago but was delayed during the review process.

The project isn’t the only upgrade to New Tecumseth Fire Services.

A new fire station is planned for Alliston later this year that will be built on the 14th Line.
