Many people enjoy a brisk walk every day for exercise.
Matthew Azevedo, co-owner of Anytime Fitness in Tottenham, decided to take an extreme walk and raise money for a good cause at the same time.
Last year, Matthew completed a challenge where he ran four miles every four hours for 48 hours to raise money for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and bring awareness to mental health and addiction support. He managed to raise $1,500.
This year, Matthew decided to try a walk from Alliston to St. Catharines. That’s a distance of 160 km or 100 miles.
He set out on his epic trek on Friday, Sept. 27, determined to complete the walk and again raise money for CAMH.
While Matthew didn’t complete the full walk – his body and legs just gave out on him – he managed to complete 112 km and raised $3,000 in support of CAMH.
Matthew aims to re-attempt the walk next year with a group of local members of the Anytime Fitness gyms in Tottenham and Angus.
