The Tottenham Railers pulled off a big win when they were up against the first-place North York Renegades on North York home ice at the Canlan Ice Sports York arena on Saturday, Dec. 16.

It was a shaky start for the Tottenham team when the Renegades came out strong in the first period, scoring three times in less than seven minutes into the game.

The Railers responded with a goal from James McLean at the 8:13 mark into the period. Émile Martin scored the second Tottenham goal on a short-handed effort to make it a 3-2 game going into the second frame.

At the end of the second period, the Railers were in the lead after scoring two unanswered goals in the period.

Tottenham’s goals came from Nolan Prock and Brett Cole.

It was a tie game when North York scored at 1:35 into the third period.

Neither team could hit the back of the net for the rest of the period to end regulation time with a 4-4 tie.

The teams returned for overtime.

It took a while, but the Railers came out on top when Ezra Baer scored 18:02 into the OT period for a 5-4 win.

The win leaves the Railers with a 14-15 record for the season, including one overtime loss and 29 points.

North York continues to lead the South Division of the GMHL with 44 points. They are followed by the Bradford Bulls and the Durham Roadrunners.

The Railers are close behind in fourth place.

The League will now take a break over the Christmas holidays.

The Railers have one road game before returning to home ice at the Ray Twinney Rec Centre in Newmarket on Saturday, Jan. 6, to host the Northumberland Stars.

Game time is 7:45 p.m.
