A teacher at Tottenham Public School has been recognized for ‘going above and beyond’ by Staples Canada and its We Love Teachers contest.

Sonia Goronovsky, who teachers at Tottenham Public School, was nominated for the contest and selected as the winner.

Staples recognized World Teachers’ Day on Oct. 5, and acknowledged the vital role teachers play in providing inclusive, quality education and improving the lives of children.

The We Love Teachers contest was launched in May, 2022, and is a campaign to recognize teachers who go the extra mile for their students.

In the spring, parents, students and fellow educators across Canada were encouraged to nominate a teacher in their community making an impact for the first We Love Teachers contest.

Staples received an incredible response with more that 360 heartfelt nominations.

The nominees were short-listed based on select judging criteria, and the field was narrowed down to the top eight finalists.

The top eight included teachers from right across the country.

Ms. Goronovsky, was chosen for her ‘fascination and enthusiasm when it comes to teaching the youngest learners, they can make a difference in the world.’

“Being nominated and chosen for the Staples We Love Teachers contest was a very unexpected and pleasant surprise,” Ms. Goronovsky said. “I truly love my role as teacher-librarian at Tottenham Public School. I take immense joy from getting to know our students and working to instill a love of reading and learning in them. Reading what my colleague wrote about me really touched my heart. After the challenges the pandemic has posed for all of us, receiving notification of the recognition was certainly a wonderful way to finish the school year.”

Meanwhile, the leader of Staples Canada noted the important role that educators have on their students.

“At Staples Canada, we recognize that teachers play an essential part in children’s lives and are the cornerstone of success when it comes to education,” said David Boone, CEO of Staples Canada. “The We Love Teachers contest is our way to celebrate their efforts and recognize educators who are making a difference in communities to inspire and nurture education across Canada.”

Staples has launched its fall contest and is currently accepting nominations until Nov. 15.

Eight teachers will be selected for a chance to win a $1,000 Staples gift card for their classroom or to upgrade any technology, and $250 cash for self-care.
