The 10th annual Kevin Lord Memorial Foundation Spring Classic Golf tournament took place May 28 at the Nottawasaga golf course. The golf tournament is held every year at the end of May as a fundraiser in memory of Kevin Lord, a past New Tecumseth resident and aspiring ice hockey and ball hockey player who passed away in 2006 at the young age of 20 after a year-long battle with brain cancer.
This year, 136 golfers enjoyed a great day of golf on a beautiful warm sunny day. Congratulations to the winning team of Alex Dunn, Darryl Corke, Bud Kelly and Luke MacDonald. Back again this year, was the “Hickory Challenge,” which was set up on a par 3 hole. For a small donation, golfers tried to better the shot of a Golf Historical Society pro, dressed in 1930s attire using old 1900s hickory shaft clubs, with all proceeds going towards The Brain Tumour Foundation Of Canada.
“We can’t thank everyone enough for the continued support they have given over the past 10 years in helping to keep Kevin’s memory alive. Special thanks also to those who sponsored a hole or made a donation, there are too many to mention. But there were 60 hole sponsors with their sign proudly displayed on one of the 18 tees. Without their support also, we definitely would never have been able to raise as much funds as we have,” said Al Lord, tournament director.
Over the past 10 years the Foundation has raised in excess of $100,000, which has been donated back to many different organizations, charities, hospitals and local families.
“Without the support of friends and family, this would never have been possible and we can’t thank them enough for continuing to support for our family and the Kevin Lord Memorial Foundation in keeping true to our motto, ‘Giving A Helping Hand In Helping Others,’ all in memory of Kevin,” said Lord.
Next year’s tournament has been planned for May 27, 2017.
