A local resident well known for his dedication to the Town of New Tecumseth was honoured and remembered during the same week.
J.J. Paul Whiteside received special recognition from the Nottawsaga OPP Detachment Board on March 11, for his extensive years of dedicated service as a provincial appointee.
A small gathering of family, friends, and OPP members came together to celebrate Mr. Whiteside and his numerous contributions to the local community where he’s actively participated in various committees and boards over the years.
Mr. Whiteside was a lifetime resident of Alliston who devoted his time to the community serving as the treasurer of the Town, as well as Ward 3 councillor and a board member on various committees and groups.
He passed away, three days later on March 14, after a battle with colon cancer.
In honour of his memory, Town of New Tecumseth flags are lowered at municipal buildings in the Town.
