The Town of New Tecumseth directed all flags to be lowered to half-staff in honour of the two South Simcoe Police officers killed in the line of duty on Tuesday, Oct. 11, Innisfil.

The town posted the statement: “We send our sincere condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the South Simcoe Police officers who were tragically killed in the line of duty. All Town of New Tecumseth flags are lowered as our thoughts and prayers are with you and all the South Simcoe Police Service.

The police officers responded to a call at an Innisfil, Ont., home.

According to South Simcoe Police Service, the officers responded to a call at a home near 25th Sideroad and 9th Line shortly before 8:00 p.m.

The two police officers were shot while inside the home. A suspect was also shot and killed.

Both officers were rushed to a local hospital. One officer died at the hospital; the second officer was airlifted to Toronto in critical condition. At 7:30 p.m. police announced the second officer had also died.

A neighbour who lived near the house where the shooting took place, said the home is owned by a couple who lived with their grandchildren.

He said the 23-year-old suspect who was killed by police was their grandson.
