Town of New Tecumseth approves 2022 budget

The Town of New Tecumseth approved the budget for 2022 at its Monday, December 13, Council meeting.

Overall, the combined 2022 approved levy reflects a 1.82 % increase, which translates to approximately $43 per year for a home valued at $452,931.

The average New Tecumseth residential property tax bill, including County and education components is estimated at $4,368.

The approved 2022 budge reflects a net general levy of $39.2 million resulting in a 1.32% levy increase.

The 2022 approved budget will provide for an additional one-time contribution to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Redevelopment Project in the amount of $250,000. This is in addition to the $500,000 committed to the project in 2020.

The Town budget includes $36 million in capital consisting of 62 projects, funded from a variety of sources.

Significant capital works for 2020 include:

Dayfoot Street reconstruction – $9.4 million

7th Line reconstruction – $5.9 million

12 Line bridge – $4.3 million

Hill Crest Well improvements – $2.1 million

Beattie Bridge utility relocation – $1.6 million

Fire Station #3 upgrades – $1.4 million

McKelvey Pump upgrades $1.4 million

Ground Well optimizations – $1.3 million

Park and recreation upgrades included in the 2002 budget: 

Belterra Park including off-leash dog park – $840,000.

Riverdale Park additional work – $177,000.

Volleyball Court Beeton – $5,000.

Hillcrest off-leash dog park – $125,000.

Beeton Recreation Centre reserve fund -$350,000.

Pierce Park basketball nets – $23,000.

Accessibility upgrades – new additional funds – $15,000.

The water and wastewater budget approval results in a 6% increase to water and wastewater rates effective April 1, 2022.
