Town receives $12.5 million for water infrastructure funding from Ontario government

The Town of New Tecumseth will receive up to $12,527,165 from the province to rehabilitate the water infrastructure in Alliston.
MPP for Simcoe-Grey, Brian Saunderson, made the announcement during a press conference at the New Tecumseth Administration Centre on Friday, Jan. 16.
The funding comes from the province’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream.
“This provincial investment will help ensure Alliston’s wastewater system can increase operational capacity and improve treatment effectiveness, support both current need and future growth,” MPP Saunderson said. “By strengthening core infrastructure today, we are helping New Tecumseth plan with confidence for the years ahead. It is a wonderful opportunity for the province to partner with municipalities so we can make sure our communities are growing in a responsible and sustainable way.”
The funding will be used in the Town of New Tecumseth for Clarifier Rehabilitation at the Alliston Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Included in Ontario’s $220 billion capital plan to build transit, highways, hospitals, schools, and water infrastructure that enables new housing, this funding is part of $4 billion in the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program.
“As we continue to navigate economic uncertainty and unwarranted U.S tariffs, our government is protecting Ontario by investing in critical infrastructure that drives growth, creates jobs and strengthens communities,” said Todd McCarthy, Acting Minister of Infrastructure. “Through our historic $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we are giving municipalities and First Nations the tools they need get shovels in the ground and build stronger communities. Our investments will deliver more homes, modernized aging water systems and lay the foundation for long-term prosperity across Ontario.”
New Tecumseth Mayor Richard Norcross said the funding will help the town achieve its goals with upcoming growth.
“This grant we are getting today, is going to allow us to make sure our wastewater is cleaner, and helps us protect our environment,” Mayor Norcross said. “Together, we are building a stronger more resilient community. The Town of New Tecumseth is being prepared for growth.”
