With the colder weather approaching, and the possibility of snow within a few weeks, the Town of New Tecumseth is reminding motorists of local parking regulations during the winter months.
Vehicle owners are advised that to facilitate street maintenance, including snow clearing and removal, parking will be prohibited on town streets, pursuant to By-Law 93-128, s.10.
The parking ban will be in effect Nov. 15 to April 15, from the hours of 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Vehicles parked on town streets between those hours will be ticketed.
If it is necessary to remove a vehicle to maintain the street or remove snow, the vehicle owner will be charged for the cost of removing the vehicle.
The rules on street parking are enforced whether it is snowing or not.
If you park in a prohibited area during the mentioned hours, you will receive a $35 fine that must be voluntarily paid within 10 days. If the fine is not paid within ten days, the set fine will increase to $52.50.
The Town will not be liable for any damage done by street maintenance equipment to vehicles parked on Town streets.
Outside of the aforementioned hours, a five-hour parking restriction is in effect, unless otherwise signed.
Town maintenance crews typically start working to clear streets during the early morning hours during a snowstorm to facilitate morning traffic. Cars parked on Town streets mean snow plows can not adequately clear a road or street.
Motorist adherence to the parking ban is appreciated.
