The Town of New Tecumseth is once again offering its annual Toys for Tickets program.

If you have some unpaid parking tickets and would like to turn them into something positive for the season, the Town is accepting toys or gift certificates as payment for parking tickets.

You can purchase a toy and bring it in its original packaging along with the receipt to the Administration Centre. The toy must be of equal or greater value than the parking ticket to be eligible.

“Now more than ever, it is important to help those in our community who may need a little extra help during the holiday season. Our Toys for Tickets campaign is a successful initiative that helps build awareness about parking restrictions while embracing community spirit and helping those in need,” said New Tecumseth Mayor Richard Norcross.

In 2021, a total of 76 toys were collected as payment for 42 parking tickets valued at $1,585.

Toys collected through the campaign will be distributed to youth in the community through the local Lions Clubs Christmas hamper program as well as through My Sister’s Place.

In the spirit of the holiday season, the overnight parking by-law restricting parking on streets between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., will not be enforced over the holidays from Friday, December 16, to midnight on January 1, 2023.

“Allowing overnight parking over the holidays gives our residents and visitors one less thing to worry about,” said Mayor Norcross. “If we do get inclement weather during this time, we ask our residents and visitors to please consider the needs of our snowplows.”

The Toys for Tickets program will take place from Wednesday, November 30, to Friday, December 9, 2022.

You can bring your toys to the Town Administration Centre to exchange for your parking tickets.
