Toys for Tickets helps local families in need, pays for parking violations

The Town of New Tecumseth hosted its annual Toys for Tickets campaign again in 2021.

Although the activity was skipped last year due to the COVID–19 pandemic, this year residents were once again able to pay their parking tickets (minus those received for parking in accessible parking spots) by donating new, unwrapped toys with a receipt of the same or a greater value.

In all, 41 tickets valued at $1,585 were paid with 76 toys, and Town of New Tecumseth Mayor Rick Milne says he couldn’t be happier.

Early this week, Mayor Milne met with Sheila Cormier, Executive Director of My Sister’s Place, the local women and children’s shelter, to turn over half of the toys collected.

He then took the balance to the Alliston Lions Hall on Boyne Street, for inclusion in their Christmas Hampers – distributed to local families in need with children.

“Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s campaign,” said Mayor Milne. “Your contributions will help a lot of families.”
