With the arrival of warmer weather, many Canadian start to travel to see family and friends.
This can make it difficult for people to find the time to donate blood.
The need for blood products never stops. Canadian Blood Services is reminding everyone to book and keep appointments to donate blood, platelets, and plasma. Patients are grateful to donors who helped ensure their needs were met through the challenging winter months.
Same-day and open appointment spots are available at many donation events across the country. If you are unable to book an appointment to donate right away, please consider booking one for the following month.
New and returning donors are asked to book and keep their donation appointments. If you are unable to make it to your appointment, please cancel it so someone else can take your place.
While there is a continuous need for all blood types, there is a greater need for donors who have a rare blood type or O-negative blood. Those who have a rare blood type or who have O-negative blood – which is essential in emergencies – are urged to continue donating blood if they are eligible.
There are two blood donation events coming up in New Tecumseth.
In Tottenham, a blood donation event will be held on Saturday, May 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Tottenham Community Centre.
In Alliston, a blood donation event will be held on Thursday, May 25, from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Alliston Memorial Arena.
To book a spot, visit blood.ca, use the GiveBlood app, or call 1-888-2-DONATE (6283).
