The position of Deputy Mayor for New Tecumseth is now a race as a second Councillor has thrown his hat into the election ring.
Incumbent Ward 2 Councillor Michael Beattie has filed his papers to run for the position.
Mr. Beattie has been on Council for the past two terms.
“I came to New Tecumseth Council in 2014 with two goals – to learn, and to continue to move my hometown forward,” he said in a social media post announcing his intention to run. “I love this job – and now I know why both of my late grandfathers loved it. The next Council will demand strong, decisive, experienced leadership. Leaders prepared to make tough decisions, and leaders prepared to work together and respect one another. I’ve prepared, and I’m ready – that’s why I’ve filed to be New Tecumseth’s next Deputy Mayor. Wishing all candidates in all races the best of luck, and kudos for stepping up to serve our community.”
Incumbent Ward 6, Beeton, Councillor Stephanie MacLellan is also running for Deputy Mayor.
She was first elected to Council in 2018.
Current Deputy Mayor Richard Norcross will be running for mayor along with incumbent Ward 5 Councillor Donna Jebb.
Incumbent Mayor Rick Milne will not be running again in this election.
