Vince’s is pleased to be recognized by the York Region Council for Exceptional Children as “Agency/Business Partner of the Year.”
Vince’s was nominated for its role in the York Catholic District School Board’s work experience program – Pathways to EmployABILITY – supporting a grocery store initiative that helped students gain valuable skills in a retail/customer service setting.
More specifically, Giancarlo Trimarchi, Managing Partner of Vince’s, worked with program representatives to create a “mini mart” at four secondary schools in areas served by Vince’s stores: St. Maximilian Kolbe CHS, Sacred Heart CHS, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Academy, and St. Brother Andre CHS.
“At Vince’s, we work with a lot of young people, and are proud to have helped so many further their education, while gaining experience that will serve them well in their future careers,” said Giancarlo. “There is much to be learned both inside and outside the classroom.”
To help create an authentic retail environment, Vince’s donated aprons, hats, bagging racks, bags, debit machines, shelving, and a variety of food items, as well as providing a coffee/tea cart to Sacred Heart CHS for a separate initiative. Giancarlo then broke down each grocery store task for a “task analysis” to be used as a teaching tool for students.
“We strongly support the work of the CEC, and their life-changing programs for exceptional children and youth,” added Giancarlo. “It is vital that we not only increase the visibility of individuals with exceptionalities, but provide meaningful work experience – in combination with their education – to prepare them for future success. We thank the CEC for honouring us with this award.”
