Tottenham’s popular Vince’s Market is no longer simply a grocery store – it’s an example for the country.

The local store, which also has markets in Newmarket and Uxbridge, as well as their home base in the East Gwillimbury community of Sharon, was named Best Small Format Grocery Store in all of Canada by the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers. (CFIG)

“This underscores the hard work that has gone into our Tottenham location, from the opening in 2017 to the hard days and nights building our customer base and exceeding their expectations,” said Vince’s partner Giancarlo Trimarchi. “The award is for our Tottenham team, and their loyalty and passion, day-in and day-out. I am truly thankful for their contributions to our business.”

Vince’s Tottenham was chosen from a field of more than 500 stores, which were categorized by specialty stores, small-format, medium-format, and large-format, and winners were announced by region: Western Canada, Central Canada, Ontario, and Eastern Canada.

The Tottenham store first took top honours as the Best Small-Format grocery store in the Province before rising to the top and scoring top honours with a gold medal for the best across the country.

The CFIG’s Independent Grocer of the Year Award (IGYA) is a celebrated recognition program that highlights grocery retail excellence among independents. Entrants are evaluated on customer service, staff and department management, store layout, merchandising, creativity, cleanliness, and community involvement.

Community involvement is something Vince’s takes pride in across all of their locations.

Through their Community Product Initiative, which donates a portion of the sales of select items to community organizations this year, Vince’s has supported numerous local organizations, with their 2021 initiative benefiting the mental health department at Southlake Regional Health Centre.

The Community Product Initiative was launched in 2018 and has raised nearly $60,000 for nine organizations and causes.
