A local organization has been assembled to honour the fallen of The Great War from New Tecumseth.
The group is launching a website and writing a book to document these sacrifices.
Every Remembrance Day the names form cenotaphs, memorial gates and honour rolls within the township are read and people always say “we will remember them.” Over time we have lost the knowledge of who they were and why we remember them as individuals.
According to Wayne Roy Burnie, this group is a non-profit, non-political and limited copyright organization. The book they produced will be donated to all the local schools, local libraries, Legion branches and museums including the Museum on the Boyne, Base Borden Military Museum and the County Museum. The sponsors will be mentioned in the book. The book will be a valuable research tool for students, families of the veterans, genealogists, military and local historians. The book will include research on all the local war memorials, cenotaphs, memorial buildings, memorial gates and honour rolls of local clubs and churches.
Information in the book will include veterans’ biographies, medals they received, troops and ships that went to England, attestation papers, etc.
They are looking for business sponsors to help them reach their goal and make this project a reality. Sponsors can pitch in any amount from $200 to $10,000.
