Winter parking restrictions back after holiday break

Winter parking restrictions are back in effect in New Tecumseth after the restrictions were temporarily lifted to accommodate residents who received overnight guests for Christmas holidays.

As of Jan. 2, overnight parking on town streets is prohibited between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. The by-law is in effect through Apr. 15.

The parking ban allows crews to start clearing roads and removing snow after snowfall. Leaving a car parked on the street will disrupt efforts to properly clear the roads and create a hazard for crews attempting to do so.

Vehicles parked on the street between the restricted hours will be ticketed, and should it be necessary to remove the vehicle, the owner will be charged with the cost of removal. This restriction is in effect whether it is snowing or not.

If you park where prohibited during the restricted time frame, you may receive a $35 fine that must be voluntarily paid within ten days. If the fine is not paid within ten days, the set fine will increase to $52.50.

The Town will not be liable for any damage from street maintenance equipment to vehicles parked on Town streets.

Outside of these dates, a five-hour parking restriction is in effect unless otherwise signed.
