Woof Walk raises needed funds for local shelter

September 22, 2022   ·   0 Comments

On Saturday, September 10, the Alliston & District Humane Society (ADHS) held its annual Woof Walk fundraiser at its shelter, located in Tosorontio.

The event included a 2km walk on shelter property, games for the participating four-legged friends and their owners, tours of the facility and a charity barbecue.

ADHS Fundraiser Coordinator Janet Dickson told The Times about 50 dogs and 70–80 walkers participated in the annual event, which was previously called the Walk-A-Dog-A-Thon and held at Earl Rowe Park. Donations exceeded the shelter’s $10,000 goal.

“Many tails at the shelter are waggin’ as our total raised to date was $15,000.00 with donations still coming in,” said Dickson. “For the past few years, our Woof Walk was done virtually due to COVID–19, so this year we really did not know how many participants and donors to expect. We cannot thank our community, participants, donors and sponsors enough for their generosity and support for this event. This event was a much-needed fundraiser to help with our increased medical expenses for our shelter animals.”

Dickson also told The Times the ADHS is already planning its next Woof Walk, to be held in September, 2023.

“We would like to send out a huge ‘Thank You’ to the following companies for sponsoring our event: from Alliston: Pet Valu, Petgrocer, Red Oak Digital Printing, Neighbours Country Depot, Brisco Furniture, Dairy Queen, and Starbucks; also Ren’s Pets from Barrie and Laura’s Farm Stand Cookstown,” said Dickson.

“We would also like to thank Paige for coming out with her lemonade stand and once again donating all the sales to ADHS. Thank you to Clay Birkett for taking the time to come out to emcee the day’s events and Sonia Birkett for assisting with the barbecue.”

Dickson also said, “Last but not least, we would like to thank all our dedicated volunteers who not only walk, feed and care for our shelter animals 365 days of the year, but also dedicated their time to volunteer at this year’s Woof Walk. Without them we could not run fundraisers like this and help as many animals as we do. From our shelter to everyone who supported our Woof Walk, we can’t thank you enough!”

Up next for the ADHS is its Fall Family & Pet Photos session on October1 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Book your timeslot online (allistonhumane.com/fall-family-photos/ola/services/fall-family-pet-photos).

Cost is $45 with all proceeds to the shelter.

Photos will take place outside at the shelter – located at 5545 Concession Road 4 Adjala–Tosorontio – so this event is weather dependant.

All dogs must be leashed.

“If you’re out shopping consider picking up an extra item for us, we appreciate your support,” said Dickson. “Stay tuned for our Holiday Supply Drive wish list.”
