Young actors achieve success through Gibson School of the Arts

Gibson School of the Arts (GSOTA) is celebrating the 2026 season for its young actors whose talent, dedication, and hard work carried them from the local South Simcoe Arts Council Music Festival to the Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincials.

At the SSAC Music Festival, Sophia Getson and Camryn Fohr were named Best Overall for Speech Arts and Drama, in the Junior and Senior age categories respectively.

They both received scholarships and were invited to perform their award-winning monologues at the festival’s year-end Spotlight Concert.

At the provincial level, Camryn achieved first place in Speech Arts for her age group and received another scholarship for her performance.

Sophia Getson, Finn Flight-Gillard, and Owen Bramham earned Honourable Mentions after advancing to the 2026 OMFA Provincials.

These accomplishments are a reflection of the commitment and potential of these young performers.

“Behind every successful young artist is an opportunity to learn, practice and be challenged by experienced mentors. Gibson School of the Arts provides exactly that environment,” said Heather Taws, program director for the Gibson School of the Arts. “Under the guidance of GSOTA’s professional theatre director, Bri Thierman, these actors developed their monologue performances through semi-private monologue sessions, gaining performance skills and the confidence to step onto competitive stages.”
