It was another winning weekend for the Alliston Hornets when they left the ice with a win over the Penetang Kings at home on Friday, Jan. 12.
The game started with a strong effort by the Hornets when they went ahead 2-1 in the first period on goals from Darin Bain and Duncan Grube.
The second period was a wild one with lots of scoring.
Tying the game early in the second period, Penetang went ahead by one on a second goal just 1 minute and 11 seconds later.
Bain got his second of the night to tie the game three. Will Millington followed up with a goal at 5:15 to put the Hornets back in the lead.
The game was again tied – at four – when the Kings scored at 6:02 into the second period.
The Hornets responded with three more goals just over six minutes apart to end the second period with a 7-4 lead and one period left to go.
Goals came from Cole Turcotte, Wynston Martin, and Bain, who got the hat trick for the night.
The final period saw one single goal from Alliston’s Will Millington, his second of the night, to end the game 8-4 and give the Hornets two more points for a total of 50 to date.
The win moved the Hornets up a notch in the standings.
Alliston played their second game of the week on Sunday, Jan. 14, in Innisfil. That game ended with a 6-1 Hornets win.
That win gives the Hornets 52 points for the season and first place.
The Stayner Siskins won their weekend game with the Huntsville Otters on Sunday, Jan. 14, to get another two points, and they now have 50.
Alliston and Staynver have been battling for the top spot in the Division for several weeks.
The Schomberg Cougars are in third place with 41 points. They are tied with the Orillia Terriers, who also have 41 points.
The Hornets will be back on home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Jan. 19, to host the Huntsville Otters.
