LeadNow to present Suzuki’s ‘BlueDot’ campaign to council, May 11th

Dear editor:
Are you seeing dots before your eyes? Blue Dots? If so, you are aware of an environmental campaign that has travelled across Canada from British Columbia and has arrived in Simcoe County. Barrie, Orillia, and Springwater are buzzing about this happening and now New Tecumseth can too!
The BlueDot Campaign is a grassroots movement which has Eco-Justice and David Suzuki as its originators and advocates. The goal is to protect the most basic of human needs – the right to clean air, clean water, and healthy food.
Unlike more than 110 of the world’s nations, the Constitution of Canada does not recognize clean air, clean water and healthy food as a “right”. This, of course, poses a big problem for the citizens of our country. Volunteers from our local LeadNow democracy and justice groups are visiting area schools, businesses, service clubs, churches, and individuals in an effort to inform about and gain support for this campaign, which is to have the Federal Constitution amended to include clean air, clean water and healthy food as a right. Our immediate goal is to have the Town of New Tecumseth pass a declaration if support by the summer of 2015.
At the May 11th council meeting, our group will share your support for the goal of the BlueDot Campaign via your letters to council, endorsements, petitions and hopefully, by your attendance at the meeting at 7 p.m. Any posters, poetry, stories, letter, raps, art work, etc. generated by our younger citizens will also be shared and incorporated. This is our chance to request council’s endorsement of the campaign.
Council if/when it sign the declaration, will advise the provincial and federal governments of its support. Will you join us in our effort to ensure that clean air, clean water, and healthy food become a constitutional right for future generations?
