Caledon Community Services received a $25,000 provincial Seniors Community Grant to provide respite care for older adults and support caregivers.

Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones announced the grant on Friday, Aug. 7.

“The Seniors Community Grant aims to remove financial barriers and provide a steady, caring connection for individuals across Ontario,” MPP Jones said. “This project will ensure that our community’s seniors and their caregivers feel supported, while promoting their capacity to age in place here at home.”

The provincial government is investing up to $25,000 per project in local services, activities, and events to provide seniors with opportunities for greater social inclusion, volunteerism, and community engagement.

“Caregiver stress and burnout is very real,” said Geraldine Aguiar, CEO of Caledon Community Services. “This critical funding will provide respite subsidy support to seniors and their caregivers in our community, helping older adults remain safe, independent, and connected in their own homes. The subsidy will reduce financial barriers to accessing short-term respite services, giving caregivers essential relief while ensuring seniors receive consistent, compassionate care.”

The Ontario government is investing up to $7 million in more than 320 Seniors Community Grants to help seniors stay fit, active, healthy, and socially connected, close to home and in their communities.

“The Seniors Community Grants Program is a great example of how our government is working for local communities,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “We are pleased to provide investments for so many services and activities that bring seniors together, learn new skills, get fit, and stay connected to their neighbours and friends.”

The Seniors Community Grants are a unique Ontario government grant designed to reduce social isolation, fight ageism and create positive connections.

Since 2018, Ontario has invested more than $40 million in over 2,100 Seniors Community Grants
