New Tecumseth Public Library launches free programs

The New Tecumseth Public Library has gone fine-free, and now it’s making all of its programs free, beginning in 2024.

The Library has a list of programs coming up this year.

At Memorial Branch in Alliston, there is the English Conversation Circle for people who speak English as a second language. The Conversation Circle takes place on Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m.

At the Pam Kirkpatrick Branch in Tottenham, In the Loop is a group for teens and adults to enjoy crocheting, knitting, sewing, and rug hooking together. This takes place on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

Also, in Tottenham, the Student Volunteer Group helps students looking for community service hours.

You can register for the volunteer group and acquire an hour of volunteer service for every meeting.

The Volunteer Group will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 17 and 31.

A Teen Volunteer Social is geared toward Grade 9 students and will count toward community hours.

These will take place on Thursday, Jan. 18, and 25.

The D.A. Jones Branch in Beeton hosts an Open Door youth Group for ages 12 and up. Drop-ins are welcome.

The Open Door will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 23 and 30.

All three branches will host programs for young children.

The Lively Tales program is based on five key practices: talk, sing, read, write, and play. You can join for rhymes, songs, and stories.

Lively Tales will take place in Tottenham on Tuesday, Jan. 16, and Feb. 27, with two time slots – 10:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. In Beeton, Wednesday, Jan. 17, and Feb. 28, at 10:15 a.m.

And in Alliston on Thursday, Jan. 18, and Feb. 29, at 10:15. a.m.

The Baby Time program is focused on babies from birth to 18 months.

Baby Time focuses on the same five key practices as the Lively Tasles program: talk, sing, read, write, and play. You can bring your baby for rhymes, songs, and stories.

Baby Time will take place in Tottenham on Tuesday, Jan. 16, and Feb. 27. In Beeton on Wednesday, Jan. 17, and Feb. 28, and in Alliston on Thursday, Jan. 18, and Feb. 29.

The programs start at 2:00 p.m each day.
