Doughnuts are pretty much enjoyed by everyone.
But when you get them fresh, right out of the fryer, they are even better.
Andrew Johnson and Melissa Arbuckle, of Sweet Rounds Mini Doughnuts brought their delicious pastries to the Tottenham Vendor and Farmer’s Market on Sunday, Aug. 4, and quickly had a line-up of people wanting to try them.
The doughnuts are made fresh, right on site. The dough machine turns out a doughnut shape, and the pastries go right into the fryer.
Andrew gives them a little stir to make the shape. After frying for a couple of minutes, the doughnuts are flipped to the other side to complete the process.
“This is our third event,” Andrew explained of their start. “This is just something we decided to do and we bought all the equipment, and here we are. We make mini doughnuts. There’s a hopper that holds all the dough. A plunger forces it through a small hole at the bottom. The fryer flips the dough itself to do both sides. We’re starting small, and hoping to grow bigger.”
The fact that doughnuts are prepared fresh on the spot is a big draw. They have that ‘just made’ taste. You can have them plain, or with a little sugar if you have a bit of a sweet tooth.
“It was Melissa’s dream,” Andrew said. “It was her idea, and she began setting it up. I did all the footwork.”
Melissa said she was inspired by her Dad who has a successful lemonade stand.
“My Dad has a lemonade stand, and I was helping him all the time and I saw how well he was doing with it,” Melissa explained. “We slowly bought all the equipment and jumped into it in less than a month. We got everything set up really quick. We’re hoping to expand. We’re looking to the future.”
Andrew and Melissa are hoping to add some new flavours to their line-up.
They made for a popular addition to the Tottenham market and plan on bringing their doughnuts to other markets around the region.
