The Alliston Hornets seem to be back on track after blanking the Midland Flyers in an away game on Friday, Jan. 17.
The Hornets were smarting after last week’s game when they lost 5-4 in a shoot-out to the last-place Muskoka Bears.
It was the Hornets’ first loss of the year after going on a 28-game winning streak since the start of the season.
In Friday’s game against the Flyers, the Hornets took an early first-period lead on goals from Hunter Martell and Jacob Holmes.
It was a 6-0 game at the end of the second period after the Alliston squad scored four unanswered goals.
Alliston’s goals came from David Harvey, Jax Bellwood, and two from Cole Turcotte.
The Hornets finished the night with a single third-period goal from Tristen Pitt to win the game 7-0.
Alliston goalie Owen Butler got the shut-out win.
Butler managed to stop a total of only 14 shots for the night – a testament to the strength of the Hornets’ defence.
Hornets forward Jaeden French continues to be the team’s leading points earner. French has recorded 28 goals and 44 assists for the season – good for 72 points.
He is second in the league overall.
The Hornets remain in first place in the North Carruthers Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.
The Orillia Terriers are in second place with a 24-4 record and 49 points.
The Stayner Siskins are in the number three spot with 44 points, followed by the Penetang Kings, Huntsville Otters, and the Innisfil Spartans.
The Midland Flyers are in seventh place followed by the Muskoka Bears who are in the basement with only eight points recorded this season.
The Hornets will be back on home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre for a home game on Friday, Jan. 24, when they will host the Innisfil Spartans.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
