The Coldest Night of the Year event will again be returning to Alliston on Feb. 24.

The fifth annual event needs sponsors, team captains, and walkers to take part, walk with S.H.I.F.T., and help people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness in the community.

Thousands of people will participate in the event nationwide to support local charities raising funds for unhoused, food insecure, and vulnerable individuals.

Since 2011, the Coldest Night of the Year has raised more than $96 million across Canada in 166 communities.

“Last year, we raised over $163,000 to support our programs and services,” said Candace Gordon, S.H.I.F.T’s donor relations and stewardship officer. “S.H.I.F.T. moved to year-round operations on Sept. 1, 2023, and we maintain our goal to support individuals, couples, and families in making a shift for good in their circumstances though the vital shelter, drop-in, and outreach services and programs offered daily by S.H.I.F.T. throughout South Simcoe. This year, we have a goal of raising $150,000 for our year-round programs and services, and we hope to achieve that goal to ensure the funding of our programs and services.”

The family-friendly walk, which can be 2 km or 5 km, is where generous community members unite to fundraise, walk, and raise awareness. All proceeds raised directly benefit S.H.I.F.T’s programs and services.

Walkers will register by 4:30 p.m. and hit the streets at 5:00 p.m. from the Alliston Memorial Arena at 49 Nelson Street W., in Alliston.

Every dollar counts, and your support can make a difference in the lives of many.
