As part of its ongoing work to strengthen early years systems across local communities, the County of Simcoe has launched a new video titled ‘The Years Before Five Shape Lives.’

This five-minute video highlights the importance of early childhood development.

Research has shown that the first five years of life are a critical period for children’s brain development. The video outlines how investments in early learning and child care contribute to positive outcomes for children and families while supporting broader economic and community well-being.

“Supporting our youngest residents’ development creates engaging learning environments for children while benefiting families and our communities,” said Simcoe County Warden Basil Clarke. “Our council and staff are working hard to support this sector with the goal of enhancing childhood development, supporting this important workforce and reducing long-term pressures on education, health, and social services.”

The video emphasizes that early learning and child care are long-term system strategies that support healthier, more resilient communities. It also highlights how early years priorities influence service design, resource allocation, and overall system performance.

Filmed in county-funded facilities, the video features local children, families, and early years professionals.

It presents research in an accessible way by connecting evidence to everyday experiences, relationships, and environments.

The County continues to recognize early childhood as a foundational social and economic infrastructure that shapes community outcomes now and into the future.
