With the warmer weather now here, residents are being reminded to take precautions when having any kind of fire or barbecuing in the backyard over the summer.
The Town of New Tecumseth has released the first Fire Danger Summary for the season.
Currently, the rating in New Tecumseth is ‘moderate,’ meaning there is no real danger of fires spreading at this time.
A cool, wet spring has led to a moderate rating.
Across the region, from Barrie and Penetanguishene to Wasaga Beach and Bradford West Gwillimbury, the rating is consistent at ‘moderate.’
The only exception is Springwater Township, which currently has a fire danger rating of ‘high.’
Residents are encouraged to remain aware of the Fire Danger Rating in their municipality and adhere to the by-law and permit requirements of all open-air burning.
If the Fire Danger rating becomes ‘high’ at any point during the summer, the Fire Department may impose a ban on all open-air fires, including those that have been issued a permit.
You should be aware of all fire bans in effect and follow those directives.
The risk of fire increases after a period of hot, dry weather.
