The Alliston Hornets dropped to second place, in the standings after a 4-2 loss to the Stayer Siskins on Stayner’s home ice on Thursday, Oct. 20, then to third after the weekend was over.
Alliston was in first place to start the week, but with the top three teams separated by only two points going into the weekend, the Stayner win moved the Siskins into the top spot.
The Schomberg Cougars won their weekend game over the Huntsville Otters, giving them two more points to move ahead of Alliston by a single point and dropping the Hornets to third place.
The Hornets game in Stayner started out well with the Alliston squad going ahead 2-0 in the second period. The Siskins fought back and tied the game with two late second-period goals.
The final period had the Siskins scoring two unanswered goals in the third for the win and the move into first place.
On Friday, Oct. 20, the Hornets travelled to Huntsville to take on the Otters.
The teams played to a 2-2 tie in the first period, with Alliston goals coming from Jack Micone and Ben Taylor.
From there, the Hornets shut down the Otters for the rest of the game.
They scored three unanswered goals in the second period to go ahead 5-3.
Alliston’s goals came from Owen Fralick, Jack Micone, and Jakob Power that period.
The Hornets secured the win with two more goals in the third period to leave the ice with a 7-3 victory.
Micone got the hat trick with his third goal in the final frame.
Power got his second of the night to end the game.
After the weekend, Stayner is in first place, Schomberg in second, Alliston in third, and Orillia in fourth place.
The Hornets will be back on home ice on Friday, Oct. 28, to host the Orillia Terriers at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
