Hornets remain undefeated after nine games, take first place

The Alliston Hornets picked up another two points after winning both of their weekend games.

On Friday, Oct. 18, the Hornets hosted the Penetang Kings at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre in Alliston.

The Hornets were leading 2-0 after the first period on goals from Jaeden French and David Harvey.

They opened the lead to 3-0 when Nick Lamont scored at 1:32 into the second period.

The Kings were on the scoreboard with a single goal at the midway mark in the period.

Alliston forward Will Millington and defenceman, Jacob Holmes found the back of the Kings’ net later in the period to make it a 5-1 game.

Hunter Martell scored the last Hornets goal of the night early in the third period.

Penetang scored late in the third period.

The game ended with a 6-2 win. The Hornets out-shot Penetang 49-21 for the game.

The Hornets were back on the ice the following night (Oct. 19) when they travelled to Orillia to take on the Orillia Terriers.

At the end of the first period, the Hornets were leading 2-1 on goals from Nick Lamont and Cole Turcottte.

It was a tie game when Orillia scored at 1:14 into the second period.

Alliston’s Jaeden French broke the tie with a goal just 1:25 later.

The game was again tied when Orillia scored late in the period to make it a 2-2 game with one period remaining.

The Hornets came out with a big effort in the third period scoring two early goals.

Cole Turcotte got his second of the game at 1:23 into the period followed by a marker from Duncan Grube just under three minutes later.

Orillia scored at 16:48 to close the gap to one goal.

Alliston’s Will Millington got the cap on the game with an empty netter with 21 seconds remaining in the game.

The Hornets are now undefeated after nine games into the season. The win over Orillia moved the Alliston squad into first place in the North Carruthers division with 18 points and knocked the Stayner Siskins down a notch into the number two spot.

The Hornets will be back on home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Oct. 25, when they will host the Midland Flyers.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
