The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation announced it received $10,000 from the proceeds of McHappy Day at McDonald’s restaurants in Alliston and Angus.
McHappy Day took place on May 11.
This year marked the 28th anniversary of the fundraising event in Canada.
Each year, more than 1,400 McDonalds restaurants across the country take part, and it is the company’s longest-running and best-known national fundraising event.
Each year, 50 per cent of the proceeds raised are contributed directly to Toronto Ronald McDonald House, with the other 50 per cent donated to local charities like SMHF.
“McHappy Day is all about putting the focus on families and health care,” said Rory MacKinnon, owner/operator of McDonald’s in Alliston and Angus. “We truly believe that it is vitally important to demonstrate to our staff that we support causes that make an impact on the world we live in. I’d like to challenge other like-minded local businesses to do the same and make charitable initiatives their priority, such as community health care.”
The funds raised for SMHF will go towards the Stevenson Memorial Hospital redevelopment project.
“A transformed Stevenson Memorial Hospital is something that requires amazing partners in our community,” said Mary Thomas, CEO of SMHF. “McDonalds Alliston and Angus has shown their commitment to a better future. From all of us at the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation and the individuals who will get the treatment they need because of this gift, thank you.”
In addition, the McCafe Loyalty Card program currently running at McDonald’s locations in Alliston and Angus will contribute $2 from each refilled McCafe Loyalty Card that is returned to McDonalds, allowing customers to enjoy a hot beverage while supporting local health care at SMH.
