Lacrosse on hold during shut-down

May 14, 2021   ·   0 Comments

Like every other sport in the province, lacrosse is dead in the water right now.

Normally, some Junior teams would have already started playing, while other leagues would be in the pre-season phase and still putting squads together.

The stay-at-home order has halted everything in its tracks.

The Alliston Renegades Minor Lacrosse Club announced earlier this year that it was not planning on a typical season.

Club executives said there will be the “opportunity for some lacrosse on a club-by-club basis,” adding that they will make updates as soon as more information is available.

Currently, the Club has not released any new information as they are waiting to see how the situation plays out.

The Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) released a “Return to Activity” series of guidelines for the 2021 season.

They do not have an approximate date as to when things may start.

The stay-at-home order put a halt to any plans the organization had in place.

All lacrosse clubs across the province are in the same situation.

Most clubs were eyeing carefully and making cautious plans for the start of the season but reminding players, coaches, and parents that everything they do is tentative.

Even if games do get underway there will be a lot of restrictions in place including which teams can meet during any kind of competition.

Since travel between health districts is still a no-go, teams would only be able to play other teams within their own district.

The OLA has not released any new information on the situation – most likely because they don’t have any new information as everyone waits to see how it all works out.

The OJALL did announce that they have a new League commissioner.

Mark Grimes has taken the post.

Grimes has served on many sports related boards including the Hockey Hall of Fame Board of Directors and the FIFA World Cup United Bid Task Force.

For now, sports leagues across the province have no choice but to wait and see how the current situation evolves over the next couple of months.
