Move to Red Alert opens some town facilities with restrictions

The move to a Red Alert in the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit means there will again be an impact to Town services.

The Health District moved to Red Alert on Monday, March 8, in keeping with the Province of Ontario’s COVID-19 response: keeping Ontario safe and open framework.

The SMDHU may implement local public health directions, bylaws, and policies which can exceed the provincial laws and recommendations.

As of March 8, recreation facilities will be staffed. Anyone entering will be screened for COVID-19 related symptoms prior to entry.

Team sports will be allowed but for training only. No games or scrimmage will be allowed.

No spectators will be allowed within recreation facilities.

The fitness centre at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre will remain closed.

The Tottenham Community and Fitness Centre will re-open. The Fitness Centre will be available with a maximum of ten people permitted at one time. You will be required to sign up for a time slot in advance. There will be a 90-minute maximum time limit in effect.

New Tecumseth Public Libraries will continue to provide curbside pick-up.

The Administration Centre and the Joint Operations Centre remain closed to public walk-ins, however pre-arranged appointments with staff is allowed.

Effective Friday, March 12

The Museum on the Boyne will be open by appointment only.

The New Tecumseth Recreation Centre will re-open, however pre-registration on-line of by phone will be required for admittance.

Rentals/booking will be taken for use of space at the Alliston Memorial Arena, Beeton Memorial Arena, New Tecumseth Recreation Centre and the Tottenham Community and Fitness Centre.

Two indoor ice surfaces at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre will be available for rentals and bookings.

The Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit is encouraging everyone to continue staying at home and limiting trips outside of their household and between other regions.
