It’s the halfway mark in the North Dufferin Baseball League’s junior division as teams battle to find their place in the standings.
The Orillia Royals are having a lot of success this season. After nine games, the team is undefeated and in first place in the division.
They have played every team in the league. The squad has scored 102 runs this season – almost twice as many as the second-place Creemore Padres – while allowing only 27 runs against.
That’s an average of just over 11 runs per game.
The second-place Padres are barely on the plus side with four wins after eight games. They also have one tie on the record this year.
In third place, the Innisfill Cardinals have played nine games, winning four, losing four, and playing one to a tie.
The Barrie Baycats are in the number four spot with a 3-4-1 record. The Baycats have scored the least amount of runs this season, meaning they have some solid defensive play in the field.
In fifth place, the Georgina Bulldogs have an even 3-3 record.
The Orangeville Bengals lost a few early games that dropped them down in the standings. They currently have three wins after eight games.
In the basement, the Mansfield Cubs are winless this year. The Cubs have taken losses in all seven games they played.
The rules for the playoffs have changed this year.
Last season, all teams made the playoffs. This resulted in an unprecedented run by the Creemore Padres, who finished last in the standings but stormed through the playoffs to win the championship.
This season, only the top six teams will make the playoffs.
