PJHL launches logo design contest for 2022 championship

February 24, 2022   ·   0 Comments

The Provincial Junior Hockey League is looking for some creative help to help design a new logo for the 2022 Schmalz Cup Championship.

Due to the delay in the season as a result of the provincial restrictions on arenas in January, the League had to make some changes for the playoffs this year.

After discussing options, the League executive decided that the 2022 Schmalz Cup will be held in a round-robin style tournament that will take place at the University of Guelph.

The tournament will pit four conference champions in a final battle on the ice.

The semi-final round will take place at the University on May 14, with the final championship game played between the two teams still standing on May 15.

There hasn’t been a Schmalz Cup champion crowned since 2019, after League play came to a sudden halt during playoffs in 2020 due to the pandemic, and an incomplete season in 2020/21.

The League is now running a new contest for someone to come up with a new name and logo for this year’s Schmalz Cup tournament.

Participants are encouraged to send in their entries for a chance to win two tickets to the finals, an exclusive hoodie with the PJHL logo, recognition on the League’s website and on the championship program.

Submissions are due by February 27.

The Alliston Hornets are a strong contender to win the League this season. They are currently in fourth place in the standings.

However, the Carrutthers Division championship will have a tough playoff run this year as the top five teams are only a few points apart and it’s going to be a tough, well fought battle for the team that comes on top this season.
