The Provincial Junior Hockey League has a released a new schedule that will take this year’s regular season into March.
The new schedule was created assuming that the current Provincial restrictions would be eased on January 31, as planned.
The last game played in the league took place on January 4, prior to the Province-wide mandate that shut down hockey arenas and other indoor spaces.
The shut-down meant teams in the League missed eight or nine games depending on their schedule.
The League already had a late start to the season and a regular season schedule that was shorter than a normal season of 42 games.
In the Carruthers Division, the Alliston Hornets are scheduled to be back on the ice on Sunday, February 6, with a game against the Schomberg Cougars at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
The Hornets have five games scheduled in February and two games in March. That will mean a 30-game regular season schedule before teams head into the playoffs.
The Alliston team is currently in second place in the divisions with 23 games behind them and a 15-7-1 record including one overtime loss. They have 32 points – tied in the points column with the Stayner Siskins.
However, the Siskins have only played 19 games this year with 11 more to go once they are back on the ice.
The Carruthers Division will wrap up the regular season on March 6, with a game between the Orillia Terriers and the Huntsville Otters.
The provincial championship Schmalz Cup will be played late in the season this year.
After the division championships and League playoffs get underway, the Schmalz Cup final will likely be played in June.
