The Alliston Hornets are in second place in the North Carruthers Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League after a 4-1 win on the road over the Innisfil Spartans on Saturday, November 12.
The Hornets are one point ahead of the third place Schomberg Cougars with 23, and three points behind the Stayner Siskins who have earned 26 points so far this season.
Saturday’s game in Innisfil had the Hornets trailing by one in the first period after the Spartans scored their only goal of the game at 5:45 into the game.
Jack Micone opened the scoring for Alliston on an unassisted goal at 3:21 into the second period to make it a tie game.
Neither team could find the back of the net for the remainder of the period leading to the final period with an even score.
The Hornets went ahead on a goal from Ben Taylor at 7:46 into the third period.
That was followed by a goal from Cole Turcotte with Micone assisted at the midway mark in the period.
Will Millington finished the scoring for the night when he found the back of the Innisfil net with just under four minutes left on the clock.
Rod Lewis was in net for the Hornets stopping 43 of 44 shots on goal for the night.
After the weekend the Hornets are riding on an 11-4 record including one overtime loss.
The Stayer Siskins are hanging on to first place in the division having lost only one game after 14 times on the ice this season.
The Schomberg Cougars are in second place with an 11-5 record.
In the number four spot, the Orillia Terriers are having a good season with a 9-4 record and 19 points.
The Hornets will be back on home ice on Friday, November 18, when they will host the Penetang Kings at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
