Alliston Legion members will be out with poppies this year

The Royal Canadian Legion, Alliston Branch 171, has announced they will be out among the public to hand out poppies this year in advance of Remembrance Day.
“We have been given permission from District and Command to be able to have Legion members and volunteers participate in in-store canvassing and handing out poppies to the public,” the Legion said in a statement.
This year, the Legion will have two electronic “tap boxes” that will make it easier for those who don’t have cash but still want to donate.
One of those tap boxes will be located at the Alliston Beer Store, with the other being rotated around to various busy locations in town.
There will still be the traditional poppy donation boxes set up at locations around the area for people to get a poppy and donate at the same time.
They are also accepting donations at the branch or by mail.
Remembrance Day activities will take place in Alliston this year at the Albert Street cenotaph on November 11.
There will be a march of the colours with members from the CFB Borden Fire Academy in attendance doing honour guard duty and participating in the ceremony.
This year, the laying of private and corporate wreaths will take place after the ceremony is finished and will not involve Legion or military personnel.
